Hunting Dr. Bancroft

Researcher and esteemed professor Dr. Bancroft has been studying an elusive cryptid known as the Old One, studying the potential truths behind the urban legends and folktales we hear about today. The professor is of the belief that these legends and tales can be debunked, explained by completely natural scientific phenomena and the overactive imagination of the human mind. As of this morning, Dr. Bancroft has been missing for over 48 hours.

This game is a mechanics-lite, roleplay-heavy one page RPG developed for the Nightmare Before Halloween game jam hosted by Nerds with Dice. Inspired by Lovecraftian horror, this light RPG offers a premise for a spooky one shot that deals with inevitability, obsession, and a fear of the unknown. It requires one four sided die and one six sided die to play.

SAFETY TOOLS: Horror, and especially cosmic horror, explores concepts that not everyone is comfortable with. Have a session 0 or otherwise speak with your group before running this game to discuss potential triggers and preferred safety tools. It is strongly recommended your group uses safety tools such as lines and veils or the X card.

The Lovecraftian concept of "madness" has been reworded as "corruption" in an attempt to divorce the concept from harmful stereotypes related to mental illness and psychosis. Please discuss this with your players in advance to determine whether they are comfortable playing a game with such a mechanic before proceeding.
